DeLand High School- An IB World School
The International Baccalaureate® aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.
To this end the organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment.
These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.

Why IB?
Sophia Abolfathi, Class of 2021 IB Diploma recipient and Jack Kent Cooke Foundation scholarship recipient shared this about her IB experience at DHS, "This week, I attended the (virtual) annual get-together of Jack Kent Cooke alumni and scholars. I’ve learned some things about the Jack Kent Cooke philosophy/goals that reminded me of my time in the IB program. I thought you might be interested!
When I applied for the scholarship in the fall, and when I was awarded it in the spring, I don’t think I realized the breadth of the community in front of me. Upon my very first welcome session, the program directors listed and described what they call “critical actions,” These are strikingly similar to the IB learning outcomes. And just as we had the IB learner profile traits, there is such a strong emphasis on being multi-dimensional and curious, caring, resilient, brave. I just can’t believe how familiar this all feels to me. It feels like I graduated to the big-kid IB, but with more money this time…
I think I just want to share that I finally learned why the learner profile traits/outcomes should be taken to heart. They’re lifelong!
I also want to say, as my start at UF looms closer, that I’m very grateful for the experience I had at DHS. The support of you, Mrs. Carter, the IB department, and DHS faculty in general was unparalleled. I scored in the 40-points range for my diploma. I very clearly remember freshman me watching videos about IB and setting that goal for myself. It feels good to know that I did. I couldn’t have done it without you.
Please encourage this year’s seniors to apply for JKCF. This week I’ve met documentarians and filmmakers across the globe, and I’m going to be forging those relationships for the next few years. This organization is a blessing." #WhyIB

For many years our programme has enjoyed the support of Stetson University and specifically the duPont-Ball Library. Quite generously, the library allows our IB students access to electronic and print resources that are often necessary for the completion of internal assessments and the extended essay.
We are very grateful for this support for our Diploma Programme students.
